The New Tumbleweed Cowboy Band

Tumbleweeds In Action

The Tumbleweed Cowboy Band was re-born in 2005 as The NEW Tumbleweed Cowboy Band with a total re-vamping of instrumentation and material.  A new emphasis was put in place with arrangements that better suited the traditional cowboy music culture; going back to the basics seems a good description.  Featuring four-part harmony on much of their material is pleasing audiences throughout the Southeast and the addition of contemporary material puts them in demand as a dance band as well as a show band.

The New Tumbleweed Cowboy band features the lead vocals of Doc Stovall, named in 2002 as Georgias Official Cowboy Balladeer and the Poet Laureate of The Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville, GA.

The basic five-piece group features Doc on rhythm guitar, Jim Dorsett on bass guitar, Gary Kimbrough on harmonica, Lamar Hunter on lead guitar and Ryan Johnson on fiddle.  Lamar and Ryan are equally adept on mandolin and banjo and can swap off on lead guitar and fiddle giving the group many options in show preparation.  Lamar and Doc have the distinction of having been elected to The Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame.  All members of the group take a part in the vocal and harmony renditions.  Depending on demands, the group is augmented from time to time with the addition of a pedal steel and another lead guitar.  The common denominator that identifies with this group is a deep-seeded love for music of all kinds, particularly traditional western and songs of the silver screen.  With their versatility on many instruments, they can offer most any type of musical entertainment.

The group is based in Cartersville Georgia and can be seen frequently at the Booth Western Art Museum and throughout the Southeast as their schedules demand. They were named Band of the Year by the Atlanta Society of Entertainers for 2006 and 2007, an honor much appreciated and a mantle they wear with pride. Doc Stovall appears as a solo act at Western festivals and celebrations throughout the United States, particularly in the Southwest.
